1912 steam train ride

Now that I've actually had the time to sew something for myself and attend a costume event I have something new to share!
I made myself a new 1912 outfit to go on a steamtrain ride:

Endlich bin ich mal dazu gekommen etwas fuer mich zu naehen und es zu einer Veranstaltung zu tragen! Dieses Outfit ist fuer eine Fahrt mit dem Mindener Preussenzug entstanden:

The empire waist skirt was made from a lightweight brown summer wool, using an original pattern (by Peerless Patterns). The blouse is actually an original antique, snapped up for £35 at a local antiques fair! A lucky find. Underneath I'm wearing my combinations, a corset cover (both antiques) and my longline corset. The hat was a plain black straw hat which I blocked, shaped and decorated after the tutorial by Lynn McMasters on Yourwardrobeunlockd.com. The tooled leather bag is an antique as well.
I was very content with this outfit and glad I had to do very little sewing. I am so short on time at the moment that I just can't afford to sew for myself rather than others.

Der Rock mit Empiretaille wurde nach einem Originalschnitt aus dem Jahr 1912 gefertigt (von Peerless Patterns) und besteht aus leichter brauner Sommerwolle. Die Bluse ist ein antikes Stueck, dass ich fuer £35 auf einem lokalen Antikmarkt ergattert habe. Darunter trage ich einen Einteiler aus Baumwolle (ebenfalls ein Original),mein Longline Korsett und ein Baumwollhemd darueber (auch antik). Der Hut war ein schlichter schwarzer Strohhut, den ich geblockt und dekoriert habe nach der Anleitung von Lynn McMasters. Die braune Lederhandtasche ist ebenfalls antik.
Ich bin recht zufrieden mit diesem Outfit und es hat Spass gemacht es zusammenzustellen und zu tragen. Ich werde sicherlich noch mehr aus dieser Dekade naehen.

1880s evening dress

Just finished: my latest commission for the lovely ladies of Timetravelling, a blue taffeta 1880s gown with hand pleated base skirt and two overskirts, a short one and a trained one. This is going to Switzerland soon and hopefully we will get to see some pictures of it being worn!

Gerade fertig geworden: meine juengste Auftragsarbeit fuer Timetravelling, ein Abendkleid um 1880 aus blauem Taft mit handgefaltetem Unterrock und zwei verschiedenen Ueberroecken. Freue mich darauf, das Kleid bald in Aktion zu sehen!

The Royal Jubilee Gala

Since I hardly have time to make things for myself these days I am posting a little pic taken on Saturday night. We attended the Royal Jubilee Gala by White Mischief and dressed up accordingly. I wore my lavender silk 1830s gown (created for Halloween 2010) complete with crazy hair and silk mitts, and A. wore the victorian suit I made for him.

Da ich momentan selten dazu komme etwas fuer mich zu naehen, greife ich auf vorhandenes zurueck! Hier ein paar Bilder von Samstagabend bei der Royal Jubilee Gala von White Mischief. Ich habe mein lavendelfarbenes Biedermeierkleid getragen (von Halloween 2010), komplett mit epischer Frisur und seidenen Handschuhen. Der viktorianische Anzug ist ebenfalls von mir.

1910s ballgown

For Belle Epoque Week I wanted to create a teens ballgown in true Titanic style. This was the inspiration:

Für die Belle Epoque Woche Kandersteg wollte ich, passend zum Titanicjahr, ein Ballkleid um 1912 nähen, inspiriert von diesen Modebildern:

 

Because teens eveningwear is all about soft flowy materials, very often involving two or more different fabrics, I picked teal silk satin and black silk chiffon for my dress.

Da die Abendmode dieser Epoche hauptsächlich leichte fließende Materialien verwendet, oft zwei oder mehr unterschiedliche Materialien, habe ich petrolfarbenen Seidensatin und schwarzen Seidenchiffon ausgewählt. 

The dress is to be worn with a classic 1910s longline corset, as well as combinations and a corset cover.
Unter dem Kleid wird ein klassisches hüftlanges Halbbrustkorsett getragen, ausserdem ein Einteiler oder Unterkleid, sowie ein kleines Hemdchen über dem Korsett.

The small rectangular train has lead weights in it to help it stay in place.
Die kleine eckige Schleppe wird von Bleigewichten in Form gehalten.

The neckline trim is modern yardage, the tassel trim is an original Victorian piece. Luckily I am able to buy treasures like this here in London.
Die Perlenborte am Ausschnitt ist neu, die Perlfransendeko am Gürtel ist ein antikes Stück aus dem späten 19. Jahrhundert. Glücklicherweise kann man solche Schätze hier leicht finden.

The dress has a fitted and boned under bodice inside and a kimono sleeved crossover bodice of black chiffon on top. It is constructed like a typical dress of the period with the skirt being closed on top of the fitted bodice. The pattern I used for this is Laughing Moon #104 - absolutely love this pattern!
 Das Kleid hat eine enganliegende Futtertaille, auf der die restliche zweilagige Taille konstruiert ist. Die oberste Lage hat Kimonoärmel und überkreuzt sich an der vorderen Mitte. Die Mode dieser Zeit hatte oft komplizierte und vielschichtige Verschlüsse, daher wird der Rockteil des Kleides über der Taille mit Haken und Riegeln geschlossen. Genaeht nach dem Schnitt #104 von Laughing Moon - ein sehr guter Schnitt, den ich sehr mag und oft benutze.

A winter warmer from 1791

For an upcoming private event I am currently working on a dress made after this fashion plate:

This image is an old favourite of mine and has been the welcome image on my website for many years. So now I am finally making this cute little outfit for myself. I bought some nice warm wool fabric in a plum shade and started making up the little pierrot jacket. You can only guess what's going on behind her arm, so I decided to make a false zone front and use horizontal stripes instead of vertical. A little in-progress piccie:

Dieses Bild ist ein alter Liebling von mir und war lange das Eingangsbild auf meiner website. Nun habe ich einen warmen Wollstoff in Pflaume und habe mit der Pierrotjacke begonnen. Da die Front im Bild teils von einem Arm verdeckt ist kann man nur raten was sich dahinter verbirgt. Ich habe mich fuer zone front anstelle eines Steckers entschieden und ausserdem fuer Laengs- statt Querstreifen:

a dress for Jane Austen festival

Finally some sewing content!! I hardly ever had the time to make something for myself recently. But a new dress was needed for this weekend's Jane Austen festival in Bath! We will have a stall at the Country Fair on Saturday at the Guildhall. Please come along and chat with us if you're in town!

The dress is a plain front closing one, made of a pretty cotton print I had lying around. I adore the pretty drawstring front and elbow length sleeves. I even made this entirely by hand, despite being short on time.
I actually did want a new ballgown as well, but since time is short I shall be wearing an old dress to the ball.
Please excuse the crappy picture, I hope there will be nicer ones taken on the weekend!


Nach langer Zeit endlich ein update. Ich bin einfach nie dazu gekommen, mal was fuer mich selbst zu naehen. Aber fuer das Jane Austen festival in Bath war ein neues Kleid erforderlich. Wir werden einen Stand auf der Country Fair am Samstag haben, solltet ihr dort sein kommt vorbei und plaudert mit uns!


Das Kleid ist ein schlichtes Baumwollkleid mit Frontverschluss aus einem Druckstoff, den ich noch im Schrank hatte. Der Tunnelzugverschluss und die halblangen Aermel sind spezielle Lieblinge von mir. Handgenaeht, trotz Zeitmangel! :)
Ich wollte auch gern ein neues Ballkleid haben, werde aber nun ein altes zum Ball tragen muessen. Naja, naechstes Mal!
