This autumn I wanted to make a dress inspired by the Penny Dreadful tv series, especially the seance scene in season 1, for a photoshoot!

Diesen Herbst wollte ich gern ein Outfit inspiriert von Penny Dreadful naehen - speziell das Kleid aus der Seance in Staffel 1 - fuer ein Photoshooting!

I wanted the shoot to have a Victorian occultism feel and I adore the costume design in PD! Here's my moodboard:
Ich wollte das Shooting gerne im Stil von PD halten, mit Anlehnung an den viktorianischen Okkultismus Trend des 19. Jahrhunderts! Hier mein Moodboard zum Thema:

I opted for a rich burgundy duchess satin that does have the look of
silk, but not the price tag! I picked readymade patterns as there was
simply no time to make my own. For the skirt I used
Laughing Moon's Five Gore Skirt (#101) with short train and it went together like a dream! I
lined the satin with a heavy polycotton and I am very pleased with the
result! This skirt has exactly the lovely 1890s silhouette I was hoping
for! I left it undecorated for now, but might add a bit of trim to the
skirt later.
Ich habe mich fuer einen burgunderroten Duchesse Satin entschieden, der zwar den Look aber nicht den Preis von Seidenduchesse hat! Dazu habe ich passende Schnittmuster ausgewaehlt: fuer den Rock den 5-Bahnen-Rock von Laughing Moon in der Variante mit kurzer Schleppe. Der Rock war simpel zu naehen und ist komplett mit Poly/BW gefuettert. Die Rockform entspricht genau der schoenen 1890er Silhouette, die ich haben wollte! Den fertigen Rock habe ich aus Zeitgruenden vorerst undekoriert gelassen.
For the bodice I used the
1892 Ball Gown Bodice pattern by Truly Victorian (#490) and modified it. Here are some construction
details for those who want to know how I did it:
I
omitted the sleeves of course and opted for a hook and eye closure on
the back instead of the suggested buttons. I purchased an embellished
black guipure motif on ebay for the center front part and made a mockup
of the bodice. I wanted to make the pleats as seen on the original
costume, so I started pleating directly onto my mockup bodice.

Fuer das Oberteil habe ich Truly Victorian's Balltaille 1892 verwendet und nach meinen Wuenschen abgeaendert. Ich habe die Taille ohne Aermel angefertigt und einen Hakenverschluss im Ruecken angebracht statt Knoepfen. Fuer den Mittelteil habe ich eine fertige Spitzenapplikation bei ebay erstanden. Das Vorderteil wollte ich gern mit Falten verzieren, wie am Vorbild zu sehen.
Hier sind die Falten auf das Vorderteil gesteckt zu sehen:
I finished the bodice with self-fabric piping and a bit of black beading
on the shoulders. I really wanted the long strands of bugle beads as
seen on Miss Ives' costume, but left it too long to find the right stuff
in time. So I took what I had: the offcuts from the black lace motif
made great shoulder pieces plus a length of beaded fringe.
Die Kanten sind mit Paspelband aus dem gleichen Stoff verziert, fuer die Schultern habe ich schwarze Applikationen verwendet. Ich haette gern die langen Perlstraenge an den Schultern gehabt, wie an Miss Ives' Kleid zu sehen, habe aber leider zuviel Zeit verstreichen lassen, um noch das passende aufzutreiben. Also musste ich bereits vorhandenes verwenden: die abgeschnittenen Stuecke der grosen Applikation wurden zu Schulterdeko, zusammen mit schwarzen Perlfransen, die ich noch hatte.
